The left coalition will remain in power in Denmark
Copenhagen: Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will remain in power in Denmark. As the final results of the general election came in, Mette Frederik’s continued rule was assured with the country’s left-wing coalition winning a one-seat majority.
“I am very, very happy,” Mette Frederiksen responded on Wednesday, addressing her supporters in parliament following the majority was confirmed.
Frederiksen has been in power in Denmark for the past four years.
Mette Frederiksen’s party retained power in the election by a narrow margin. Frederiksen’s Social Democrats won 87 seats in mainland Denmark alone. The party won three more seats in the other three autonomous overseas provinces, the Faroe Islands and Greenland.
With this, the left bloc led by the Social Democrats got a majority of 90 seats in the 179-member parliament.
The right-wing coalition Blue Bloc won 72 seats in mainland Denmark and only one seat in the Faroe Islands. The Blue Bloc is a Liberal-Conservative coalition supported by three populist parties.
Frederiksen is preparing to form a new centre-left government with the election victory.
