“Lebanon Debate” – Muhammad Al-Madani

Despite the importance of the presidential election and the necessity of achieving it as quickly as possible, some people forget that the government election is no less important than the presidential election, and just as the political forces work to choose the next president, they must at the same time search for a prime minister who is up to the national responsibility and leads the process of real advancement that will take place. Lebanon needs it.

With politicians preoccupied with the presidential election, some are trying to float some Sunni names for the position of prime minister, and it can be said that a conversation is taking place behind the scenes regarding this issue, which comes directly following the election of the President of the Republic.

In this context, the Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian, was the first to initiate the government file. He deposited with the Saudi ambassador three names that he deemed appropriate to head the government, namely: Minister of Environment in the caretaker government, Nasser Yassin, former Minister Muhammad Shuqair, and Representative Fouad Makhzoumi.

According to informed sources, Mufti Derian chose to head the government someone who finances Dar al-Fatwa institutions, such as Shuqair and Makhzoumi, and ignored other figures who possess the qualities required to go through this experience, without the need to mention names, since the Sunni sect has always produced and continues to produce national figures capable of assuming responsibility, especially in the circumstances. Sensitive.

The sources revealed that the advisor to the Saudi ambassador, Marwan Al-Saleh, is the hidden center in this area, as Al-Saleh made a promise to both Makhzoumi and Shuqair to help them reach the government palace.

Al-Saleh, according to the sources, is one of the few who use Makhzoumi’s private plane for personal purposes, and he brought it to Beirut, Lakhdar Brahimi, to attend the Taif anniversary ceremony held by the Saudi embassy at the UNESCO Palace. In addition, Al-Saleh is the one who coordinates the relationship between the Saudi ambassador and Makhzoumi and secures appointments for the latter. With the ambassador.

Al-Saleh also plays a major role in the relationship between Muhammad Choucair and the Saudi ambassador, as he also promised to help him reach the presidency of the government. Al-Saleh built a good relationship for Choucair with Buhari on the pretext that Choucair had departed from the mantle of President Saad Hariri, and he also promised him to open a line for him with the Saudi Royal Court. This was something that Choucair denied following the “We Are All Beirut” gathering met with Prime Minister Hariri in Beit Al-Wasat, following Choucair learned that he would not get anything in return for departing from Hariri’s will.

Therefore, we ask, “Has the Sunni community been reduced to Muhammad Shaqir and Fouad Makhzoumi? Are there no longer competent national figures who head the government? Have presidential positions now been reserved in the name of financiers, regardless of their capabilities? And has the advisor to the Saudi ambassador now owned the key to the government palace and given the position to the chief to whomever he chooses?” Who are the politicians?
