The Lebanese Foreign Ministry’s criticism of the invasion of Ukraine reacts

Reactions in Lebanon react to the Foreign Ministry statement criticizing the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and Hezbollah stands at the forefront of critics of Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, who was left alone as the Cabinet refrained from including the statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on the agenda of its last session. What increased the ambiguity regarding the Lebanese position.

I added to the ambiguity and confusion of positions that most of the ministers criticized the content of the statement in public, albeit modestly, for its departure from neutrality and the policy of disassociation from which the government is committed. Prime Minister Najib Mikati reiterated it yesterday. Moscow expressed its dissatisfaction with the Lebanese position, and the Lebanese ambassador to Russia, Shawki Bou Nassar, informed the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov.

Asharq Al-Awsat learned from sources closely related to the decision-making circles that Bou Habib decided to bear alone the burden caused by the Foreign Ministry statement.

Hezbollah attacked Minister Bou Habib, and the party’s deputy, Hassan Fadlallah, accused him of “lying down” and “sticking his nose” in an international conflict. He said, “What was issued by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry regarding what is happening between Russia and Ukraine does not express the position of the Lebanese people, nor the position of the Lebanese state.”
