The Lebanese army shoots at an Israeli drone

January 13, 2023

Baghdad / Obelisk: The Lebanese army said on Friday that its forces had fired at an Israeli drone that had penetrated the airspace over southern Lebanon, and a security source said that the drone had not been shot down.

The Lebanese army said in a statement, “While an army patrol was examining one of the violations in the outskirts of the town of Hula and Wadi Hunin, a drone belonging to the Israeli enemy violated the Lebanese airspace in the aforementioned area and flew over the patrol, so the soldiers opened fire at it.”

A security source told Archyde.com they did not shoot down the drone.

The Israeli military stated that it was not aware of such reports.

Israel regularly launches military aircraft into Lebanese airspace without permission, but it is very rare for the army forces to target them.

Lebanon and Israel agreed in October to delineate their maritime borders following years of talks mediated by the United States. The land border between the two is still disputed.

And last December, a United Nations peacekeeper was killed when his car was shot at in southern Lebanon, where security is controlled by the powerful anti-Israel group Hezbollah.
