The leather harness is the fashion piece you didn’t know you needed

With the arrival of the fetish trend, that combo of bold and sexy style that has taken over fashion, it was only to be expected that the harness would come back with a bang. The golden age of this piece dates back to just three years ago, when Timothée Chalamet set the tone for the 76th Golden Globe Awards dressed in a shiny harness Louis Vuitton by Virgil Abloh that combined the spirit of Haute Couture with the influences of Street Style.

We can also mention Michael B. Jordan who appeared a few months later with a similar model, also designed by Virgil, the French designer who revolutionized fashion.

The harness comes back strong

The fetish fashion trend took over the 2021 Met Gala and the same year’s VMAs ceremony to make his big comeback. This is demonstrated by the appearance of Kim Kardashian, wrapped from head to toe in a black cotton Balenciaga T-shirt, but also Madonna who, on Instagram, did not hesitate to reveal a total leather look with sadistic spiritsurely one of the few stars who has always embraced the style.

Without a doubt, this trend has inspired designers this season. If we were to describe most of the Fall/Winter 2022-2023 shows, the word sexy would probably be at the top of the list. the harness, a sadomasochistic piece made of suspenders, has been an inspiring accessory for many designers. In London, Richard Quinn, a latex fanatic, had drag queen Violet Chachki put on a latex suit and strap on another model in a harness. In Milan, Roberto Cavalli combined it with flowing dresses with delicate transparencies. In Paris, Koché made it one of the star details of his show, while Weinsanto ingeniously reinterpreted it. One thing’s for sure, it wouldn’t be surprising see Julia Fox embrace the trend too.
