Sergei Mironov, chairman of the Just Russia for Truth party, head of the party faction in the State Duma, proposed renaming Kaliningrad to Vladybaltiysk. The parliamentarian wrote regarding this in his Telegram channel on Monday, July 4th.

Mironov recalled that initially in 1946 it was planned to call the capital of the region Baltiysky. Two more options were considered – Slavgorod and Korolevets.

“Just at that time, the nominal head of state, Mikhail Ivanovich Kalinin, died, and the city was given his name, although the “all-Union headman” had nothing to do with the region. And the former town of Pillau became the Baltic, ”said Mironov.

The party leader believes that the time has come to think regarding renaming Kaliningrad “in accordance with modern realities and domestic traditions.”

“For example, Vladibaltiysk and, accordingly, the Baltic region. From this name it immediately becomes clear that we are talking regarding an outpost on the extreme western border of our Motherland, which stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Baltic. But, of course, the residents of the region should solve this issue, ”concluded the parliamentarian.
