The Florentines were regarding to leave the hotel for the match when general manager Joe Barone fell ill. The sports manager was taken to the San Raffaele hospital in Milan.
Sky Sports has learned that several players were present when Barone fell ill and were so shocked by the incident that they might not concentrate properly during the match. According to reports, he is conscious, but in serious condition due to a heart attack.
Barone was born in Italy but grew up in the United States, and since 2019 has been President Rocco Comisso’s right-hand man.
