the lawyer surprised by the expressions of the Attorney General

On Monday the Attorney General of the Mexican State of Quintana Roo, Oscar Montes de Oca, affirmed that the Argentine model and influencer Agostina Jalabert “expertly and scientifically she took her own life,” during a press conference by the Security Cabinet of that Mexican province.

The Jalabert family lawyer, Betina Teuly, was surprised by these statements by the attorney general and affirmed that they have been working since last Monday “with the femicide prosecutor’s office (femicide in our country) in Cancun,” since the line of investigation for alleged femicide was opened.

He added that Montes de Oca “authorized the deputy prosecutor of the downtown area to pass the (investigation) folder to the Bureau and to the femicide prosecutor’s office, so we don’t know what it might be saying. It would be a waste of time, money, energy, and we have no idea what made him say that.”

In turn, he maintained that Montes de Oca “is going to have to substantiate (on suicide) because we are providing the necessary elements, which indicate something else.”

Teuly affirmed that progress is being made in the case of the young woman from Carmen de Patagones, despite the statements made by the attorney general. He also referred to the situation of Juan Manuel Reverter, the partner of Agostina Jalabert and explained that “when there is an investigation file on femicides without detainees, as in this case, the investigation is carried out first. When it closes, according to the data entered, it is decided whether there is criminal action or not” once morest the suspect.

The lawyer maintained that she cannot give details of the cause since «when there is an investigation process we cannot give information, we are not allowed. Neither we nor the prosecutor in charge of the file because we can commit to the investigation.

In any case, he made it known that “there are new elements that point out, both the family and me, that each time we are convinced that it was femicide.

Regarding the deadlines for the femicide file that “it will not take that long” because the investigation is ongoing and “we are incorporating all the missing data and the prosecutor decides, together with me, and if the family agrees, the file of investigation”.
