The law on renovation in St. Petersburg will be suspended, September 13, 2022 – September 13, 2022

The city’s CRT law was passed by the city’s Legislative Assembly in late June and has stirred the city. It concerns panel Khrushchev houses built in 1957–1970. The main claims of the townspeople relate to the absence of restrictions on the resettlement of houses that have fallen under renovation – this can be any point within the boundaries of St. Petersburg. Residents fear that from quarters with developed infrastructure they will end up in “human settlements” on the outskirts of the city. In addition, the law does not guarantee that apartment owners (as opposed to tenants) will receive equivalent housing.

In August in St. Petersburg was filed first class action lawsuit on the invalidation of the regional law on KRT.

According to deputies, about a million citizens could potentially fall under the renovation.
