The latest TV decoder from Proximus is causing dissatisfaction: essential function missing, bugs, whims…

Distributed on a large scale for almost two years, the case is polluted by bugs and ignores a function yet present on the old models (V5, V5 Compact, V6). Concretely, it is impossible to extend the availability of a recorded program.

The strangely penalized V7 decoder

Reminder shot: by default, the programs (show, film, series, etc.) that you record on the Proximux Picxk server are available for 60 days. On older generation decoders, it is possible to extend the delay on a case-by-case basis.

Le online manual details the maneuver: “If you want to keep them longer (up to 50 hours of recordings, 3 years maximum), go to the list of recordings, select the desired program and make your choice. »

As surprising as it may seem, the V7 presented as open and modern does not offer this option. To the chagrin of some customers frustrated by this incomprehensible absence.

An inconsistency soon resolved?

On the official Proximus forum, anger is brewing. Selected piece: “I come to wonder if there is really a desire on the part of Proximus to make effective on the V7 this functionality which was on its old models (and which is possible with the competition). Or are they waiting for the complete replacement of the fleet by V7s to communicate to customers (put in front of the fait accompli) that this will not be possible in the end? »

Faced with this repeated criticism, the response from one of the Proximus forum moderators published on July 5, 2022 seems to outline a clearing in the gloom: “Although it is not for now, I recently learned that the long-term recordings would make a comeback. Unfortunately, I don’t have any dates or months to announce yet. As soon as these finally make their big comeback, I will obviously be delighted to announce it to you. »

Quirks and instability

Other grievances overwhelm Proximus TV’s V7 decoder. Its behavior is regularly capricious, due to more or less generalized bugs, insist some customers. Here is what you can read on the ADSL-BC forum:

“For the moment, lighting for quite a long time, often the message that Ethernet is not connected, the remote control which is lazy (many clicks necessary for 1 action) always has problems with weak sound, dull image, chaotic forward and backward movement, etc. In fact when you ask nothing of this V7 it works pretty well. »

After 18 months of cohabitation with the V7, it is clear, from the sole point of view of our personal experience, that this device is regularly unstable. It is sometimes necessary to restart it several times so that it agrees to operate and broadcast the programs. Picture and sound are sometimes out of sync for no reason.

Fortunately, Proximus injects updates to its Android TV decoder at regular intervals, supposed to fix problems as they arise.
