The man had fought for more than a year to have the procedure endorsed in the midst of several legal obstacles that, following bravely circumventing, he was able to win.
In his last message before dying, Víctor Escobar thanked the media for being part of this fight together with his lawyer to grant him a dignified death, he also thanked the Colombians.
“With the lawyer at the head, it was possible to reach the goal: that patients like me, not terminal but degenerative, win this battle,” he said.
Escobar insisted that this is not a victory for him alone, but for thousands more patients who wish to die before suffering serious complications.
“This opens the door for more patients who come following me, and who at this moment want a dignified death, to achieve it. To the Colombians: blessings, I love you very much », insisted the Caleño.
Amid applause, his friends, family and lawyer fired him.

With this procedure, Víctor Escobar becomes the first non-terminal patient in the country and in Latin America to access euthanasia.
