Emmanuel Macron respected the tradition by presenting his wishes to the French on the evening of December 31, the last of his five-year term.

Since 1960, it has been the ritual of December 31 for each President of the Republic: to present their wishes to the French for the coming year. It is in front of an open window with the Elysee gardens in the background that the Head of State speaks. He begins his vows with the theme of the health crisis. “Vaccination is our surest asset. It greatly reduces transmission and divides by ten the number of serious forms. That is why I once appeal to the five million unvaccinated”, explains the President of the Republic during his vows.

Without mentioning better days like during the first wave, Emmanuel Macron reiterated his optimism on the end of the pandemic: “2022 may be the year the epidemic ends, I want to believe it with you. The year we can see the outcome of this never-ending day.” Then the Head of State defended his record in economic matters and he welcomes the current situation of the country: “We have worked tirelessly to attract business and investment, open factories and create jobs. Never in 15 years has unemployment been so low.”
