“Now these are tears of emotion and pride, not sadness. A little boy from a small town called Fuentealbilla is crying in front of you, who dreamed of becoming a football player, achieved a lot through hard work and never gave up,” said the midfielder.

The world-class manager played in 442 matches for FC Barcelona between 2002 and 2018, with which he collected 32 trophies: he was the Spanish champion nine times, the King’s Cup winner six times, the Spanish Super Cup seven times, the Champions League four times, the European Super Cup three times and the Club World Cup. After leaving the Catalans in 2018, he strengthened Japan’s Vissel Kobe and Emirates Club in Ras al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.

He appeared in the Spanish national team 131 times, scored the winning goal against the Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup final, and was also European champion in 2008 and 2012.
