The last episode of The Last of Us introduced new characters to the plot, including two new names in the franchise. While introducing the Hunters to the public, a group known to fans of the games, the series gave more depth to the group that was previously formed only by NPCs, creating the characters Kathleen and Perry to further develop the plot.
With the series remaining very faithful to the original content, so far HBO’s production has allowed itself to make some changes that fit well with the plot, which is also the case for the characters introduced to the group of Hunters, with the novelty offering a deeper plot. In addition, two important characters, already known by fans of the game, appear in this scenario: Henry and Sam.
Who are Henry and Sam?
After getting involved in a conflict with some Hunters, killing some members, Joel and Ellie need to hide from the group in the streets of a city that no longer has FEDRA forces. At the end of the fourth episode, the man and the girl are surprised by two characters who had not yet appeared in the adaptation. Henry and Sam, who are being sought by the Hunters, appear pointing guns at the protagonists. But who are the two boys anyway?
In the game developed by Naughty Dog, the characters appear with importance in a moment of the plot, joining forces with Joel and Ellie to survive. In the game, both also had problems with the Hunters and were running away from the group. Like Joel, Henry did everything to protect his younger brother, Sam, who had similarities with Ellie for being a boy with a stolen childhood due to the state of the world.
In the series, the history of the characters with the Hunters seems to have more depth, since everything indicates that both had some connection with the death of Kathleen’s brother, the leader of the group. In the HBO production, Henry and Sam are played by Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Woodard respectively.
Henry and Sam will be important in the fifth episode
Although they appeared pointing guns at Joel and Ellie, in fact the brothers are not a threat and will become allies of the protagonists. The next episode of The Last of Us should be pretty intense if it faithfully follows what we saw in the first game in the franchise.
