We tested The Last of Us Part 1

The Last of Us Part 1, is the story of a project that aroused as much interest as questions. On the one hand, many fans are happy to find the founding story of Ellie and Joël – especially with the new graphics of the PlayStation 5. On the other hand, it is already the third time that Sony and Naughty Dog have us serve The Last of Us, with a basic release in 2013 as well as a remaster in stride on PS4. So, in the end, what is it worth? Because here, PlayStation takes over the same philosophy as for the remake of Demon’s Souls : either totally review the technique and the artistic direction but leaving the story, the level design as well as the gameplay almost unchanged. It only remains to see if it is a winning bet or not. Answer right away!

A magic still, still unchanged

In addition to the excellent work on the visuals, whether for the faces or the backgrounds, we especially remember one thing from The Last of Us Part 1: the adventure still works just as well, in particular thanks to a work of writing and staging that takes everything in its path, making us forget the slightest defect. Because yes, by not touching anything on the structure, the level design of The Last of Us Part 1 seems quite cramped and not conducive to exploration – especially when compared to the second episode. Ditto for the gameplay which, despite some improvements, remains classic, “in its own juice”. Sure, this remake won’t be the action-adventure game of the year, but it’s a great way to (re)discover The Last of Us. carries an emotional and immersive impact that is well worth seeing. For JV, it’s 17/20!
