It’s been an open secret for months and months now: The Last of Us remake on PS5 (and PC) finally showed up for good tonight, at Summer Game Fest 2022. With a trailer yes, but also some interesting information.

Before the Part. II, Part I

The Last of Us Although it was released in 2013, it will indeed benefit from a remake on PlayStation 5 and later on PC. The announcement was finally made at the Summer Game Fest (and even a little before because of a rather annoying leak) et will then bear the sweet name of The Last of Us Part Ithen forming a completely logical duo with its sequel which occurred in 2020, The Last of Us Part II.

Neil Druckmann, co-founder of Naughty Dog, came to the opening ceremony set with host Geoff Keighley to talk regarding it in person. The first thing to know is that this is not a remaster but a total overhaul: “everything has been redone from scratch”, admits the developer.

Reinforcing new technologies

This applies to the environments but also and especially to the facial animations: the faces have indeed changed and the acting performances are announced as much more realistic and poignant once more than in the original game.

To do this, the developers returned to the scenes played in motion-capture by the various actors – Troy Baker (Joel) and Ashley Johnson (Ellie) were also on site at the Summer Game Show – in order to best transcribe their game with the new technologies. Naughty Dog also promises us a brand new artificial intelligence for enemies and characters in clasheswhile the gameplay has been modernized.

PS5-specific features such as 3D audio, adaptive triggers and DualSense haptic feedback will also be included : “effects, exploration and combat” have even been “improved”we are told.

As for the legitimacy of redoing a game that is “only” nine years old, the Californian studio declares that “it’s not for the TV series that is coming, but mainly because there are a lot of new players on PS5 and PC” and that he wanted “Give them the best version of The Last of Us”.

The Last of Us Part I will be released on September 2, 2022 on PlayStation 5. The PC release date is not yet known.

Last year, the show featured stunning images from Elden Ring; so inevitably, the third iteration raises high expectations.
