The last-minute cancellation of the second edition of the World Beach Games (August 5-12) deprives six athletes from the French team of a world premiere in Bali.

While the Federation’s selection committee had just announced the composition of the French team to compete in the first surfing competition (longboard and shortboard) in a month at the Canggu spot, the ANOC (association of national committees Olympics) announced last night that the second edition of the World Beach Games had been cancelled. Hina Conradi, Nahia Milhau, Thomas Debiere, Sam Piter, Martin Coret and Ophélie Ah-Kouen had been selected to represent France at these 2023 World Games.
“It is with great surprise and extreme disappointment that ANOC has learned that the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) has withdrawn from its commitment to host the ANOC World Beach Games and the General Assembly of the ANOC in August 2023, announces the ANOC in a press release. With the Games due to take place in a month, the decision taken at such late notice prevents ANOC from finding an alternative host and therefore there is no choice but to cancel this year’s edition of the Games. in Bali. »
A hundred countries for regarding 1300 athletes were expected in Bali to participate in the 14 sports of the program including surfing. “ANOC’s immediate priority is to ensure that athletes are supported and that National Olympic Committees and International Federations are compensated as best they can given the cancellation of the Games”adds the ANOC.
