“The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray” on Apple TV

Ptolemy Gray has grown old, he is now over 90 years old. He has already forgotten what happened yesterday, this morning or just now. He forgets things, he knows that too. He realizes he doesn’t even know what day of the week it is anymore. Photos of relatives hang on the wall in the hallway. The names of the people are glued to each picture, otherwise Gray would not recognize them. From time to time a piece of the past flickers up, then he sees his childhood in poverty in Mississippi and his beloved wife Sensia in front of his inner eye. You can clearly see his deterioration. He is unkempt and lives in his house between clutter and dirt. The world on his doorstep scares him because he can no longer find his bearings in it. But it also hints at what a proud man Ptolemy must have been once. His main caregiver was his nephew Reggie, who also cared for him and was always able to prevent the worst. The rest of his family has long since lost patience with him – but then Reggie is murdered and it completely pulls the rug out from under Gray. Young Robyn is now taking on the caring role. Not entirely voluntarily. The orphaned girl was thrown out and out of sheer desperation she checked in with “Uncle” Ptolemy, cleaned the apartment and took care of the dementia patient in return for board and lodging. Together they learn regarding a new clinical study that might perfectly restore Ptolemy’s memory. A new drug is said to bring him back his sanity for a few weeks before relapsing into potentially worse dementia. Nevertheless, the old man agrees. After taking the drug, old Ptolemy Gray awakens. And so begins a journey into a life full of memories. But there are not only traumatic experiences, but also many past moments of happiness, a valuable treasure and a legacy. And maybe a lead on Reggie’s killer.
