Today, on March 19, the last group of Belarusian diplomats left the territory of Ukraine. This was told by the Ambassador of Belarus in Kyiv, Igor Sokol.
In an interview with the Belarusian TV channel STV, Sokol said that the decision to evacuate was made by the leadership of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, since the diplomats were “virtually in a state of siege.” He noted that the group of embassy employees who left Ukraine today consisted of 11 people and two members of the families of diplomats.
The evacuation took place along the corridor provided by the Ukrainian side, however, according to the ambassador, the diplomats had to travel to the Republic of Moldova due to the lack of proper security.
According to him, the Ukrainian side blocked all financial accounts of the embassy, and created “unbearable conditions.” In addition, Sokol complained regarding threats of physical violence.
Earlier, the head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission stated that Ukrainian border guards violated the norms of international law when Belarusian diplomats passed the Mogilev-Podolsky checkpoint. He specified that, despite the fact that all the leaving cars were marked with diplomatic numbers, each of them was inspected in detail for several hours.
Recall that Kyiv severed diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation on February 24, the day the special operation began. All Russian diplomats were also evacuated from Ukraine.
