The Alicante town of Elche already has the largest ultra-fast recharging center for electric vehicles that currently exists in southern Europe. Located in a strategic location on the A-70 motorway, in the municipality of Elchenext to the airport, the Alicante Trade Fair Institution (IFA) and the Elche Business Park, the facility is made up of two charging stations -one in each direction of the highway- and will have a total nominal power of four megawatts.
The infrastructure, carried out by
Iberdrola In collaboration with
Porscheadds a total of four 400 kW chargers and another 12 of 200 kW, with the possibility of charging up to 16 vehicles simultaneously and with the capacity to recharge the battery of an electric car in less than five minutes.
Users of these facilities will recharge the battery of their electric cars with 100% green energy, from renewable generation sources, with a guarantee of origin certificate (GdOs) and the recharging points will be located on the Iberdrola Public Recharging App.
According to Global Director of Smart Mobility at Iberdrola, Raquel Blanco«these are innovative installations, suitable for any type of electric car, which allow batteries to be charged in very short times and which, together with the network of recharging points that the company has in operation in the rest of Spain, mean a definitive commitment to the decarbonisation of mobility in our country».
For him CEO of Porsche Ibérica, Tomás Villén «At Porsche we do not understand electric mobility as the future of the automotive industry, but as the present for which we have been betting decisively for some years now», Villén commented to the regional authorities. Next, the General Director of the car brand gave some figures that corroborate these words. In 2021, half of the vehicles sold by the subsidiary of the German brand were electrified and, of the total sales for that same year, 20% corresponded to the Taycan model, the first fully electric car marketed by Porsche.
Iberdrola has partnered with Porsche to install a total of 35 ultra-fast charging stations in Spain with the most powerful chargers on the market. Within this collaboration, the installation of 15 innovative recharging points in strategic nodes, with more than 300 kW of unit power, associated with storage systems using batteries that allow increasing the efficiency of the facilities, is also planned.
In addition to this alliance, the company continues with its expansion plan in electric mobility that will allow the installation of ultra-fast charging stations in strategic areas throughout the national territory in the coming years, as well as continuing with the deployment of installations of lower powers. These ultra-fast charging stations they join the recharging infrastructure network that Iberdrola deploys and that already has more than 2,500 public recharging points in operation nationwide.
