The lack of agreement between pilots and Aeroméxico could lead to a strike on October 1

MEXICO CITY.— This Friday morning, the Pilots Union Association (ASPA) of Mexico, released a statement in which it confirms the organization’s call for a strike for next October 1 and clarifies that it is not a political matter but rather a “regrettable coincidence.”

Through its account on the social network “X”, formerly Twitter, ASPA México, offered information regarding the contractual review with the airline Aeroméxico.

In the document, “ASPA pilots appreciate the support we have received from some users; We reiterate our respect for the passengers and tell them that it is not our desire to cause harm, we are workers who seek job improvements and calling for a strike is a right that we are exercising.”

It also points out that the planned date for the location of the October 1“it has no political purposes, it is a purely work matter and one unfortunate coincidence“.

The document explains that, “Our collective contract, signed since 1988, establishes September 30 as the deadline for contractual review, making an explosion at strike would begin in the first minute of the next day”.

And he adds that, “We pilots will maintain openness to dialogue with Aeroméxico as long as the administration recognizes the fair value of its pilots.”

Association of pilots without agreement with Aeroméxico

Last Wednesday, the Union Association of Aviator Pilots reported that a few days before the deadline for the review of the collective bargaining contract ends, they have not reached an agreement with the airline Aeroméxico and remain alert to a possible strike for the next October 1st.

“In the absence of a fair proposal from Aeroméxico, the ASPA pilots demonstrated today at the facilities of Terminal 2 of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM),” the pilots noted in a statement.

This, they said, “to make public the airline’s disinterest in reaching an agreement on the contractual review in a timely manner, which avoids impacts on passengers.”
The pilots indicated that they have expressed their “willingness to negotiate agreements for mutual benefit.”

“We do not want more than we deserve, but what the airline’s management offers is far from being fair,” they added.

Subsequently, Aeroméxico issued a statement in which it reported that it is maintaining negotiations with ASPA and has the “firm commitment to strengthening the collective bargaining agreement” with the purpose that its pilots “continue to enjoy the best remuneration, benefits and the highest level of well-being of the country’s airline industry.
