– Wine production is undoubtedly a new and exciting business opportunity for Norwegian farmers. Then we must also make arrangements so that the producers can have outlets where the wine is produced. It is attractive to us consumers, and it will be able to give the farmer a greater share of value creation, says the Labor Party’s business policy spokesperson Rune Støstad.
He has fought for Ap to open wine sales from farms together with the party’s municipal policy spokesperson, Lene Vågslid. When have the two gained traction.
“We will open up the sale of locally produced beer, wine and spirits from the production premises to small producers, without the volume challenging the position and function of the Vinmonopolet”, says the Labor Party’s proposal for a new party programme.
Today it is legal to sell alcohol made from apples from the farm, while alcohol made from grapes has been banned from sale. Vågslid believes Norway must look to Sweden, where a bill on farm sales has already been drawn up.
– We should make good arrangements for our farmers to sell their products. If you produce a wine on the farm, you should be able to sell it in your farm shop. This will provide a great opportunity to create new activity for both agriculture, tourism and the rural areas, says Vågslid.
The Labor Party’s new party program will be presented on 30 September.
