KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari took part in the Hearing Meeting at Commission II DPR(Antara)

The Indonesian General Elections COMMISSION (KPU) plans to conduct consultations with Commission II of the DPR RI and the Ministry of Home Affairs representing the government, regarding two regulations related to the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada). In the near future, the KPU will send a letter requesting consultation for urgent purposes or important.

The two regulations in question are the Draft KPU Regulations (PKPU) concerning the Compilation of Voter Lists in the Election of Governors and Deputy Governors, Regent and Deputy Regent, and Mayor and Deputy Mayor as well as the PKPU Draft concerning Nominations for Governor and Deputy Governor, Regent and Deputy Regent, as well as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Member of the Indonesian KPU, Idham Holik, said that the consultation schedule was within the full authority of the leadership of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives. However, his party emphasized that consultation on the two PKPU drafts related to the 2024 Pilkada was important.

“We have conveyed the urgency of the two regulations that we implemented yesterday for public testing and will immediately promulgate them,” said Idham when confirmed, Thursday (25/4).

If the regulation has not been promulgated until the stage of submitting support for the pair of regional head and deputy head candidates for the individual route begins, Idham said that his party would issue a separate technical regulation. He said that this policy had already been implemented in the 2020 Pilkada.

“The KPU in this area will receive support from individual candidate pairs from May 8-12 2024,” explained Idham.

“And on May 5-7, the regional KPU will make an announcement regarding the schedule and mechanism for submitting support for individual candidates for the national simultaneous elections,” he said. (Z-8)
