The Knicks file a protest with the NBA over their controversial loss to the Rockets

New York, Feb 13 (EFE).- The New York Knicks presented a protest to the NBA on Tuesday for their loss on Monday in a controversial final once morest the Houston Rockets.

Journalist Adrian Wojnarowski of the ESPN network assured that the Knicks’ hope is that the protest will allow them to either resume the game with a tie and overtime or find some type of remedy without a defeat.

Only six protests in NBA history have been successful, the last of them in 2007 when Shaquille O’Neal was ejected in the last minute of a game between the Miami Heat and the Atlanta Hawks despite having only five fouls and no six.

Months later, the last minute of that match was played once more without the score changing (win for Atlanta).

The referees of the Rockets-Knicks game recognized this Monday following the match that they made a mistake in a foul in the last second that they called on Jalen Brunson and that led to Houston’s victory once morest New York by 105-103.

The NBA also admitted this Tuesday in its report of the last two minutes of the game that that refereeing decision was incorrect.

With 103-99 with 48 seconds left, Brunson scored two baskets in a row and tied the game for the Knicks (103-103).

However, the Rockets still had 8.3 seconds left to avoid overtime. Jalen Green took responsibility but his shot was blocked by Precious Achiuwa.

The ball ended up in the hands of Aaron Holiday, whose three-pointer at the buzzer didn’t go in. However, the referees called a highly controversial foul by Brunson that gave Holiday three free throws with just 0.3 seconds left.

The Rockets player scored the first two, missed the third and the game was over.

“Live it appeared that the contact on the lower part of the body was illegal,” the referees explained following the game according to the NBA pool.

“After viewing the play in the postgame review, the attacking player was able to return to his normal position on the court. The contact occurred following he threw the ball so it is incidental and marginal to the shot attempt and not “he should have been whistled,” they added.
