The King’s Singers celebrate their anniversary in Austria

A band that survives 55 years and still fills concert halls has reason to celebrate. The King’s Singers do that with three albums in one year and a tour that also takes them to Austria for two dates in July. The a cappella ensemble comes with the album “Tom+Will” and “When You Wish Upon A Star” for Walt Disney’s 100th birthday. A third album with music by the Austrian anniversary celebrant György Ligeti will follow in autumn.

On July 4th, the six-piece men’s group from England will be guests as part of the styriarte in the Helmut List Halle in Graz. Within 70 minutes, The King’s Singers span the spectrum from Renaissance master William Byrd to pop, jazz and folk arrangements.

On July 23rd, the two countertenors Patrick Dunachie and Edward Button, the tenor Julian Gegory, the bass Jonathan Howard and the two baritones Christopher Brueton and Nick Ashby will perform at the St. Florian Monastery in Linz. They are welcome guests at the Upper Austrian monastery concerts. However, they have never sung in the Stiftsbasilika. With “Northern Lights” they come up with old Norse and Celtic folk songs, majestic choral works by Grieg, Sibelius and Nielsen or works by the local composer Augustinus Franz Kropfreiter.

The King’s Singers were founded 55 years ago by six choral students from King’s College on the Cambridge campus and have been renewed ever since. You can refer to around 3,000 songs and arrangements, 150 albums and over 200 commissioned compositions. The a cappella group has performed in many of the world’s major concert halls and has won Grammy and Emmy awards.
