In connection with the breakup, information had abounded in the Norwegian press, that the future princess husband had an affair with another woman in a Swedish ski resort.
A heartbroken Madeleine broke off the engagement immediately, and left the country as a result of the public betrayal. In the US, she found her Chris O’Neill, and Jonas would later find love in the princess friend Stephanie af Klercker.
Now it is revealed that the king helped the Bergströms at home on Swedish land, to make a multi-million deal. And it’s all happening behind Chris O’Neill’s back.

Jonas Bergström was very popular during his relationship with Madeleine. Not least the king greatly appreciated his future son-in-law. He saw potential – and would have been more than happy to offer him a princely title if all went according to plan.
But the relationship fell apart, and both parties moved on. In the same month that Madeleine got engaged to Chris in 2012, Jonas got engaged to his Stephanie.

The Bergström couple have remained in Stockholm, and since 2019 live in Villa Stora Astringe out on the Royal Djurgården, where they live a life of luxury and flair. The dream villa is a condominium of 285 square meters, and three floors. It is surrounded by lush nature, wealthy neighbors and close to some of the country’s top elite schools.
– As soon as we stepped over the threshold and saw the view towards the sea, Jonas said “We’ll take it!” and we both felt that we really wanted to live here, Stephanie has told Sköna Hem.

They made an offer to the Bergström couple – and were prepared to double whatever they bought the house for in 2019. It was an offer Jonas and Stephanie couldn’t refuse – and after long negotiations they had a deal.
In 2019, the house was listed for 30 million kroner, which means that Jonas made at least 30 million kroner in profit by letting the ABBA legend buy off the dream house.
A multi-million deal that would not have been possible without Jonas Bergström’s intended father-in-law, the king.
The king has the right of disposition over the Royal Djurgården, which means that he must approve who is allowed to live there. So it was he who made sure that Jonas’ house deal went through – and who gave him at least 30 million kroner – by approving Björn Ulvaeus.
How the king decides on disposition rights is also something that happens behind closed doors – without Madeleine’s current husband Chris getting wind of it.
