A young Jordanian woman, Naima Seif, posted a video clip on Instagram, complaining regarding the rejection of the King Hussein Cancer Center, to which she was donating to continue receiving her 65-year-old father.
Naima appealed to the Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, to help her father, who was diagnosed in the Islamic Hospital in Amman with leukemia from the seventh case. The video spread in Jordan, and the tweeters expressed their sympathy for Naima and her father.
And the episode (12/14/2022) of the “Shabakat” program monitored the Jordanian interaction with the incident, where Razan denounced the behavior of the Hussein Center, and wrote, “Humanity is indivisible, and those whose age is small are more worthy of treatment than the elderly! Excuse me?”.
Yoshka wondered regarding the fate of the people who might not make their voice heard, saying, “Abu Naima Saif was lucky that his daughter has a number and her companions have a number, and the issue spread in this way and at such a speed. Others have no limit, no hope, no number, and no fear.”
Mais expressed her shock at what was mentioned in the video, so she tweeted, “On what basis does he refuse to receive cases according to ages! I mean, a 65-year-old patient does not have the right to be treated! Where is the humanity? I am not able to overcome Naima Seif’s video, nor am I able to overcome the pain, fear and heartbreak that I saw.”
On the other hand, Lana justified the Al-Hussein Center’s response because the priority in treatment is for the most needy patients, so she wrote, “According to what she said, her father is old and in an advanced stage, and the hospital considers that there are people who need treatment from him. It is not in defense of the center that it is a first case than a case that is not a problem with the hospital.”
However, the King Hussein Cancer Center issued a statement showing the condition of the disease following studying it, and said, “He needs immediate admission to the hospital to deal with complications, and due to the lack of beds, especially in the leukemia department, and to avoid complications from the waiting period, we advised the patient’s family to go immediately to another hospital that currently has the capacity.”
The center added, “The decision to accept and admit any patient to the center is never related to the patient’s age, but is subject to medical opinion, the availability of beds, and the capacity to treat his condition.”
The Royal Medical Services published a post on its page, in which it said, “His Majesty the King directs the treatment of citizen Saif Awad at the Military Oncology Center at his own expense. He was transferred to the Military Oncology Center and surrounded by comprehensive medical care and the provision of the necessary treatment services for him.”
Then Naima returned and appeared in another video clip to thank the king and everyone who supported her in making her voice heard in order to obtain treatment for her father.
