Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader VD Satheesan offered condolences on the death of famous screenwriter John Paul. Satheesan recalled that John Paul was a unique genius who became a screenwriter without writing a single short story and remained the king of screenplays. In a condolence note, the Leader of the Opposition said that the demise of the author of more than 100 screenplays, which changed the horoscope of Malayalam cinema and will not be repetitive, will create a void and will be a textbook for the new generation in the path of cinema.

Legendary screenwriter John Paul has died this followingnoon. He was 72 years old. He died at a private hospital in Kochi. He was admitted to various hospitals in critical condition for two months. John Paul was paralyzed by shortness of breath and low levels of oxygen in the blood. He was transferred from the hospital where he was first treated a month ago following being referred for treatment by the critical care team. A special medical team was deployed to treat the condition.
Earlier, the state government had sanctioned Rs 2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s fund to the Medical Assistance Fund for Paul, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kochi. In addition to this, eleven lakh sixty four thousand rupees came from the public for medical assistance. Minister P Rajeev visited John Paul at the hospital. John Paul’s family’s financial situation worsened following months of treatment, and efforts to raise funds began with the help of an audience. But he said goodbye as the move progressed. John Paul, an employee of Canara Bank, later resigned and became a full-time screenwriter.

He was the producer of the state, national and international award winning film Cherupunchiri directed by MT Vasudevan Nair. She starred in the films Gangster and Care of Sairabanu.
