With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving about 148,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world. .

What specific humanitarian measures did King Abdullah II propose to support Gaza during his recent address?
**Interview with Dr. Amina Taha, Middle East Affairs Expert**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Taha. We just heard about King Abdullah II’s urgent call for enhanced humanitarian aid to Gaza. Can you tell us about the specific measures he recommended?
**Dr. Taha:** Thank you for having me. King Abdullah II emphasized the need for the international community to boost its humanitarian response in Gaza. He called for the unhindered delivery of aid, highlighting that it should occur without any objections or delays. This reflects a growing concern over the dire humanitarian situation exacerbated by ongoing conflicts in the region.
**Editor:** Exactly, the situation in Gaza has been described as critical. How does King Abdullah propose to facilitate this aid?
**Dr. Taha:** One of his key points was urging Western allies, particularly those with influence over Israel, to advocate for increased aid from Jordan through various entry points, including the Kerem Shalom crossing. Jordan is calling for the current aid levels to be doubled to effectively address the escalating crisis there [[1](https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/jordans-king-abdullah-says-gaza-aid-must-be-doubled-stem-crisis-2024-02-27/)].
**Editor:** That’s a significant thrust. How might the international community respond to such calls, considering the complex dynamics at play?
**Dr. Taha:** The response from the international community will largely depend on diplomatic relations and negotiations between countries involved. Many Western nations have shown support for humanitarian efforts, but the logistical challenges of delivering aid during ongoing conflicts can complicate matters. Advocacy by leaders like King Abdullah can play a pivotal role in mobilizing more robust international support and ensuring that aid reaches those in desperate need.
**Editor:** And what are the potential implications if these calls for aid are not heeded?
**Dr. Taha:** If the humanitarian response is insufficient, we could see further deterioration of living conditions in Gaza. This could lead to increased civilian suffering, possibly fueling further unrest and complicating the already fragile stability of the region. The social and political ramifications could be profound, potentially leading to wider consequences not just in Gaza, but across neighboring countries like Jordan, which is directly impacted by these crises.
**Editor:** Thank you, Dr. Taha, for your insights into this pressing issue. It is certainly a critical time for humanitarian efforts in the region.
**Dr. Taha:** Thank you for having me. It’s imperative that we keep the spotlight on these issues and advocate for timely and effective humanitarian aid.
