Amman – The King of Jordan, King Abdullah II, and the President of the Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed, discussed yesterday, Monday, ceasefire efforts in the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to an ongoing Israeli war for about 6 months.
This came during a phone call between the two sides, according to a statement by the Jordanian Royal Court.
The statement said that the two sides discussed “the efforts made to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the protection of innocent civilians, and mechanisms for doubling humanitarian aid and delivering it by all possible means.”
They emphasized “perpetuating close coordination between Jordan and the UAE regarding various issues, and enhancing opportunities for cooperation in all fields, to achieve the interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples,” according to the same statement.
The announcement of the call comes after a meeting between King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in the capital, Amman, earlier Monday, during which the situation in Gaza was discussed.
Fears of worse conditions within the Palestinian Strip are increasing, especially after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to carry out a military operation in the city of Rafah in the far south, despite international warnings.
Since last October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left tens of thousands of victims, most of them children and women, a humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure and property, which led to Israel being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”
