During the meeting, matters of bilateral cooperation between the two countries were discussed, developments in the regional situation, and efforts made to calm and reduce escalation to reach peaceful solutions.
The meeting was attended by the King’s personal representative, Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the King’s representative for humanitarian works and youth affairs, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of the Royal Court, and Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Earlier, the Iranian News Agency reported that Araqchi left for Bahrain with the aim of continuing his regional meetings and consultations, and that he would then leave for Kuwait.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, in a press conference yesterday, Monday, regarding Araghchi’s visit, “Regardless of some disagreements with some countries in the region, we have given priority to consultation to maintain peace and security.”
Bahraini-Iranian relations entered a new stage last June, with the two parties agreeing to “establish the necessary mechanisms in order to begin talks between the two countries to study how to resume political relations between them.”
It is worth noting that the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, had announced, during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last May 23, his country’s support for normalization with Iran, indicating the disappearance of problems between the two sides. The King of Bahrain said at the time: “We had problems with… Iran, but now there are no problems at all. “There is no reason to postpone the normalization of relations with Iran.”
