The kilometer allowance must finally be increased

Fritz Pöltl (FCG-ÖAAB) “Apparently the many employees are not important enough for the Greens to agree to an increase!”

Vienna (OTS) Despite all the assurances and announcements, an increase in the official mileage allowance is still not in sight. And that has been the case for 18 years, because the ÖAMTC calculated back in 2005 that each kilometer driven by car costs an average of 46.2 cents. The official kilometer allowance has been 0.42 euros since then. Since then, employees who have to use their private vehicles for business purposes have had to cope with a loss-making business. The price drivers: fuel prices have almost doubled, parking and motorway fees and the horrendous repair costs, which have even risen between 8 and 10 percent annually. Fritz Pöltl, chairman of the FCG-ÖAAB parliamentary group in AK-Vienna: “All these costs have been valued year after year, only the mileage allowance has remained the same. Even without these costs, the mileage allowance has long since stopped covering costs! It should currently be more than 60 cents per kilometer.”

Green blockade

After Chancellor Karl Nehammer announced that in times of high inflation there must be financial relief for people who make their daily contribution to society and have more to live on, VP club boss August Wöginger even expressly mentioned the increase in the official kilometer allowance . However, since there has been no sign of any movement so far, a blockade by the Green coalition partner must be assumed. Fritz Pöltl: “Apparently the many employees are not important enough for the Greens to agree to an increase!” The result: those affected have to sponsor the companies with their hard-earned salaries and even the official ones for the additional costs of the kilometers driven shoulder the withheld outrageously expensive mineral oil tax.
