The Kills Announce New Album ‘God Games’: A Musical Journey of Sonic Exploration and Intensity

The Kills today announced the release of their sixth studio album, God Games, out October 27th through Domino Records.

Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, the creative minds behind The Kills, take us on a musical journey on this album that explores new sonic horizons without losing the band’s signature intensity and finesse.

The album “God Games” consists of a total of 12 tracks that offer a fascinating insight into the changing soundscape of The Kills. Following the release of double single ‘New York/LA Hex’ which drew attention last month, now follows the announcement of the album with new single ‘103’.

While LA Hex focused on the emotional facets of modern Los Angeles life, 103 presents us with a somber perspective on the city’s frightening uninhabitability.

„stick with me under the last palm tree / and sip a little water from the dirty fountain meant to be / the sum of it all“

The Kills – 103

The accompanying music video for “103” was shot in the purpose-built 3D film studio of renowned rock and fashion photographer Steven Sebring. In this video, The Kills are shown under the glare of an angry, imposing sun.

God Games focuses on the time-tested interplay between Alison Mosshart’s stirring voice and Jamie Hince’s intricately layered guitar playing. They boldly go in new creative directions.

For the first time they have increasingly composed on the piano and integrated innovative electronic sounds and horn textures into their otherwise rather minimalistic sound. Crystal clear production and deep lyrics define the album, as does the collaboration with the Compton Kidz Club Choir on songs like “LA Hex” and “My Girls My Girls”.

The making of the album began way back in 2019, when the duo set up shop in an old church to record the album with multi-award winning producer Paul Epworth (known for working with the likes of Adele and Paul McCartney).
