Cairo – Masrawy:
British scientists have identified 5 types of bacteria linked to prostate cancer, and they hope that this will be a start on the way to providing new treatments for this cancer.
Researchers at the British University of East Anglia studied urine samples and tissues of people with prostate cancer, and discovered that all types of these bacteria are anaerobic, meaning that they are able to grow without the presence of oxygen, and these bacteria can be described as fatal to men.
Colin Cooper, a professor at the University of East Anglia School of Medicine, said: “We already know some strong associations between infection and cancer. For example, the presence of Helicobacter pylori in the digestive tract can lead to ulcers, and it is also linked to stomach cancer. Also, some types of HPV can cause cervical cancer.
Cooper added: “Through the research, we wanted to know if the bacteria might be linked to the way prostate cancer grows and spreads,” according to Sky News Arabia.
