Kia officially launched the EV5 in China at the 2023 Guangzhou International Auto Expo. The electric vehicle was showcased at the Chengdu Motor Show earlier this year and was already available for order in the country, starting at 159 800 yuan (~US$22,162). However, the company has just announced that the EV5 will be available starting at 149,800 yuan (~US$20,775), which is 10,000 yuan (~US$1,387) less than expected.
The entry-level version of the Kia EV5 in China offers a 160 kW motor and a 64.2 kWh BYD LFP Blade battery for a maximum range of 530 km (~329 miles). A long-range variant features a more powerful 88 kWh LFP power pack for an increased range of 720 km (~447 miles) with the same engine. An all-wheel drive model is also planned, with two 160 kW front and 70 kW rear motors and an 88 kWh battery. The price of these two long-range models is not yet known.
Inside the EV5 are three combination screens: a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 5-inch climate control panel, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Additionally, the EV will have Level 2 assisted driving with tools such as semi-automatic lane changing and remote smart parking. Kia is known for its more generous warranties, with the EV5 being covered for five years or 100,000 km (~62,137 miles) in China. The battery, motor and electronic control system receive extended coverage of eight years or 150,000 km (~93,206 miles). The Kia EV5 is also expected to be sold in Canada, Australia, South Korea and possibly Mexico, with the vehicle expected to hit the road in 2024.
