ABU DHABI, 4th June, WAM/ The Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation won the “iF DESIGN AWARD” in Germany for its international scientific report entitled “Khalifa International Award – Bridging Borders.”
The book won the award for the best design category, according to the decision of the jury for this year, consisting of 132 members of independent experts representing 20 countries, in addition to the jury consisting of 9 chairmen of committees, amid intense competition among approximately 3,578 projects to participate in the hope of obtaining the award.
Dr. Abdul Wahhab Zayed, Secretary General of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, praised the support of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, and the follow-up of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Award, pointing out This victory coincides with the Year of Sustainability 2023 in the United Arab Emirates.
The Secretary General of the Award stressed the growing importance of the date palm tree worldwide and in the Middle East and North Africa region, specifically for the role that the date palm can play in the equation of food security, sustainable development and climate change.
Dr. Abdel Wahhab Zayed said: The date palm tree is a guarantee for sustainable living and is the key to a more sustainable world. By preserving and growing palm trees, we can overcome environmental, social and economic challenges, as each palm tree can absorb about 200 kilograms of carbon dioxide annually, which means 100 million trees in the Middle East and North Africa region have the capacity to absorb about 28.7 megatons of carbon dioxide annually.
As for the chances of a green recovery after the pandemic: The book revealed that the “COVID-19” pandemic showed that there were unresolved pre-pandemic challenges that involved the national food security of individual countries during national closures. Therefore, the pursuit of a self-sustaining development model is self-serving. Planetary health and human health To achieve this, regional and international North-South, South-South and triangular cooperation will be crucial in line with SDG 17 which aims to strengthen international cooperation when implementing sustainable initiatives.
