Accustomed to the Champs-Élysées since the 1980s, the July 14 military parade will exceptionally change its setting next year, due to preparations for the installation of the urban events of the Paris 2024 Summer Games.

On July 14, 2024, the Olympic flame will already be in Paris, twelve days before the Games cauldron is lit at the end of an Opening Ceremony planned along the Seine.
On this occasion, the torch of the Games will be part of the celebrations of the National Day and more particularly of the military parade which, each year, ensures the spotlighting of the French armies.
But if the parade usually takes place on the avenue des Champs-Élysées, from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde where the stands are located, the 2024 edition will be exceptionally relocated.
Due to the development on the said square of the infrastructures necessary to host part of the urban competitions of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games – skateboarding, BMX freestyle, breakdance, 3×3 basketball – before the arrival of the opening of the Paralympic Games, the authorities decided to change venue, with the organization of the military parade further east of Paris, from Vincennes to Place de la Nation (11th, 12th arrondissement).
As the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, explained during a speech delivered this Thursday, July 13, 2023 from the Hôtel de Brienne, headquarters of the Minister for the Armed Forces:
We are one year away from the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris and next year, the Olympic flame will light up our parade between Vincennes and the Nation.
You will be engaged in your domestic missions to help secure these global events.
Some of you will also participate in the competitions, and we will all be behind.

The configuration of the premises – with in particular the long straight line offered by the Cours de Vincennes (12th, 20th) – naturally imposed itself on the authorities to temporarily rethink a military parade which mobilizes a large number of personnel and equipment.
This year, there are no less than 5,100 women and men on foot, 219 motorized troops (vehicles and motorcycles), 200 troops mounted with the horses of the Republican Guard, but also more than 60 planes distributed between the Army of Air and Space Force, the French Navy and Civil Security, without forgetting also 28 helicopters from the Army, the Air and Space Force, the French Navy, Civil Security and of the National Gendarmerie, who take part in the parade.
The prospect of the 2024 Paris Games has somewhat punctuated the organization of the military parade in recent years, whether with the assistance of the Patrouille de France in support of the tricolor candidacy in 2016 or through the honor of Olympic and Paralympic athletes in 2022.
