While the representative of the Attorney General’s Office explained the reasons for John Nelson Poulos –indicated femicide of Valentina Trespalacios– went to prison, the defendant was laughing in the audience. The behavior was classified as “burlesque” by the judge, who had to intervene to stop the laughter.

“Excuse me, Madam delegate of the Public Ministry, we are going to make a call for attention. Mr. Translator, so that you please tell Mr. John Nelson be attentive to interpretation. I do not see that the intervention of the delegate of the Public Ministry be a reason for ridicule or cause some laughter “said the 59th criminal judge of Bogotá.

The facts were recorded in the middle of the guarantee control hearing that seeks to determine if Poulos faces the rest of the trial –for aggravated femicide and concealment of evidence– in prison or not.

For Poulos’ behavior, his defense attorney had to intervene to apologize.

I offer excuses for the behavior of my principal. However, what I am explaining to you is the arguments that are being evidenced and I am trying to explain for the moment of my intention. Although the answer is not what we would expect, we are in the exercise of the defense and a good contradiction”, said the public defender, John Falla.

Videos, chats and testimonials are some of the elements that compromise Poulos as the main suspect in the crime of the 21-year-old DJ. The woman was found dead inside a suitcase on Sunday, January 22, in a garbage container in Bogotá. The Legal Medicine opinion determined that the young woman was murdered by mechanical suffocation.

The Attorney General’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office and the defense of the victims have insisted on the need for Poulos to enter prison. The hearing for the insurance measure will resume around 2:00 pm this Thursday.
