Iswap, the West African branch of the Islamic State claimed Saturday the second attack which took place Friday in the State of Taraba. A state located in the central part of Nigeria and bordering Cameroon. And once once more it is a bar that has been targeted. 11 people were injured.

Already last Tuesday, a bomb had also exploded in a bar in the state of Taraba, killing a dozen people. Each time the same modus operandi: a suspect pretends to be a client before setting off his explosive device.

Anxiety is mounting among residents of Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state. They knew the potential and creeping threat. Because last December Governor Darius Ishaku warned of attempts to infiltrate his territory by suspected members of Iswap. But never until then, the citizens of this state in the center Northeast imagined that having a drink in a bar might lead to death.

A grim experience familiar to Yobe State, where Boko Haram carried out its first deadly attacks more than a dozen years ago in the far north-east of Nigeria, and where another 11 people have lost their life following an attack perpetrated by Iswap last Wednesday.

By claiming one following the other, in the same week, three attacks with explosive devices in pubs, Iswap confirms its propensity to target non-Muslims as a priority. And like its rival Boko Haram, this armed group does not rest during the period of Ramadan.

Fiercely fought around Lake Chad by the joint multinational force, Iswap seems to want to open a new front a little further south in northeastern Nigeria.
