Casemiro selected Scholes as his idol during his time at Manchester United through an interview published in the ‘Global Edition’ of Goal.com on the morning of the 26th (Korean time).
In an interview, he said, “In terms of the position of midfielder, my idol has always been Zinedine Zidane. But at Manchester United, Scholes has always been like my idol.”
He continued, “Scholes was a very good player. I liked him as a player. He was small but solid and a good player.”
Zidane is a legend in the French national team. At the same time, as a gift for Casemiro, he is the creator of the present Casemiro. He boldly hired Casemiro after his loan in Porto, and Casemiro stood tall as a so-called world-class midfielder under Zidane’s regime. As well as winning the UEFA Champions League for three consecutive seasons, he helped the team win the Big Year as a cornerstone in last season as well.
Casemiro’s Manchester United idol was Scholes. Scholes was Manchester United’s leading midfielder. He is also a one club man. He made his professional debut with the Manchester United youth team, and his retirement was also with United. After announcing his retirement, he made a surprise return to active duty in the 2012/13 season, proving his class. He played as Manchester United’s trustworthy man whose midfield collapsed with his rust-free skills.
The winning record is also impressive. He has won 11 trophies in the Premier League alone, including two UEFA Champions League titles.
Coincidentally, Casemiro inherited the number 18 shirt from his former Manchester United idol, Scholes. Case Miro, who left Real Madrid to wear a Manchester United jersey this summer through the transfer window, greeted fans who visited Old Trafford during the Liverpool match and is about to make his Manchester United debut.
It remains to be seen whether Casemiro, who shared the glory of the club as a key member of the K-Ka-Mo trio during his time at Real, will continue his glory in Manchester as well as Madrid.
