the Istiqlal party recovers its seat in Aïn Chock

Held Thursday, September 29, in four constituencies, the partial legislative elections are completed. The final results were announced on Friday evening, revealing the new tenants of the seven seats, whose election was invalidated by a decision of the Constitutional Court. The Court of Elders, it will be recalled, had canceled the election of 16 deputies in the context of the ballot on September 8. The Court therefore declared 27 appeals inadmissible.

In the constituency of Ain Chock, nicknamed “conscription of death” given the fierce competition between candidates, the Istiqlal party was able to keep its seat following the re-election of MP Ismaïl Benbi. The latter was able to win once more the confidence of the voters who confirmed his mandate.

With 1,212 votes, the Istiqlalian candidate came in second place behind that of the Popular Movement, which garnered 3,580 ballots in its favour. The Istiqlalian candidate, like the others, enjoyed the support of all the components of the party and its personalities, including the Secretary General, Nizar Baraka. The leader of Istiqlal, let us remember, went to the candidate’s stronghold on Wednesday to publicly show his support.

The seat of Aïn chock, let us remember, is the only one that was recovered by the Balance party, whose candidates competed for the rest of the seats in three other constituencies, namely Driouech, Guercif and Safi.

The Istiqlal party had won more than one seat in previous by-elections, including that of July, when the parliamentary group’s president, Noureddine Modian, won his in the Al Hoceima constituency. Ditto for the party candidate in the constituency of Guelmim, where Abderrahim Bouaida won his case with the Constitutional Court which validated his election.

Following the announced results, the national representation in Parliament undergoes a slight change in its configuration.
