The issue of depriving six outstanding Moroccan students from participating in the 65th edition of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) has reached the parliament, following a written question addressed by the parliamentary advisor of the National Union of Moroccan Workers, Khalid Al-Satti, to the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, regarding the deprivation of six outstanding Moroccan students from participating in the 65th edition of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which was held in Britain from July 11 to 22.

Parliamentary advisor Khaled Al-Satti stated that this year witnessed the selection of the Moroccan national team that will represent Morocco in the International Mathematical Olympiad in England, where the students concerned and their companions presented their passports to the officials in order to prepare the travel visa.

Khaled Al-Satti pointed out that the selected Moroccan students underwent a preparatory training camp in the city of Benguerir three weeks before the trip, which was scheduled for July 14 from Casablanca to London, one day before the start of the competitions.

He added that things did not go as the students had expected, noting that the students were surprised to be deprived of participating in this international scientific event, in which about 125 countries participated, for “reasons beyond their control.”

Al-Satti pointed out that Morocco had ranked 68th out of 112 participating countries during the Tokyo 2023 session, improving its ranking by two points compared to the Norway session for the year 2022.

Al-Satti inquired about the reasons that prevented the Moroccan delegation from participating in the 2024 Mathematical Olympiad, and about the procedures and measures to be taken to develop and improve the quality of supervision and scientific and pre-preparation for such events according to a strategic and forward-looking vision.
