Al Jazeera and POLITICO Europe reported that the pro-Israel media watchdog group “Honest Reporting”, which bills itself as a “public welfare organization” with a mission to “expose anti-Israel media bias”, published an article on its website on the 8th stating that these four freelance photojournalists appeared in Kazakhstan that day. The report pointed out that the most serious question raised by “Honest Reporting” is whether these photojournalists received a reminder that Hamas was planning a cross-border attack and were therefore prepared to track Hamas’s actions at close range.
After the “HonestReporting” article went online, Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi accused foreign media of hiring informants who had received tips. He posted on the social media platform “X” (formerly Twitter), “It has come to our attention that certain individuals within your organization, including photojournalists and others, were aware of these horrific acts in advance and may have been involved in them. The perpetrators maintained a disturbing relationship”.

The New York Times, CNN, the Associated Press and Archyde.com all quickly issued statements strongly refuting the “Honest Reporting” report. The New York Times even stated that these “startling” accusations endanger journalists in Israel and Gaza. However, one of the freelance photojournalists, Hassan Eslaiah, was cut off from ties with the Associated Press and CNN because he was photographed taking a photo with Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
