Lebanon – Lebanese sources reported at dawn on Tuesday that Israeli aircraft launched at least three raids on the vicinity of the city of Baalbek and the town of Ali al-Nahri in the Bekaa Valley, eastern Lebanon.
A field source told Sputnik that “Israeli warplanes launched 10 violent night air strikes on a number of villages in the Bekaa in eastern Lebanon,” noting that “the raids caused huge explosions and an intense escalation of fire was seen in many areas.”
The source added, “The raids targeted the city of Baalbek, and the towns of Iaat, Tal Abyad, Al-Asira, Al-Basateen, Hermel, Al-Ain, between the towns of Al-Farzul and Karak, Durus, and Rayak.” It also targeted residential and commercial areas, which confirms the occurrence of many casualties.”
This comes at a time when battles have continued in southern Lebanon between Lebanese factions and the Israeli army, for more than 12 months after the party announced the opening of a front in support of Gaza, as operations are expanding on a daily basis along the border from Ras al-Naqoura to the Shebaa Farms.
At the beginning of this October, the Israeli army announced the start of a targeted and precise ground operation in southern Lebanon against targets and infrastructure of the Lebanese factions, in a number of villages near the border, despite international warnings and UN resolutions, which represents a major new escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two sides. It threatens the outbreak of a regional war.
