Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Iraqi presidency condemned, on Saturday, the Turkish attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport, and demanded that the Turkish government take responsibility and make an official apology, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
And the Presidency of the Iraqi Republic stated, in a statement published by (INA) Agency: “Turkish military operations are repeated in the Kurdistan region, the latest of which was the bombing of the Sulaymaniyah civilian airport, and while we condemn these blatant attacks on Iraq and its sovereignty, we affirm that there is no legal justification that authorizes the Turkish forces to continue their approach in Terrorizing peaceful civilians under the pretext of the presence of anti-Iraqi forces on Iraqi soil.”
The presidency called on the Turkish government to “take responsibility and make an official apology for these actions, stop these attacks and solve their internal problems by opening the channels of dialogue with the concerned parties.”
The statement stressed that “in the event of a recurrence of such attacks, there will be a firm stance to prevent their recurrence in the future.”
And the Directorate of Sulaymaniyah International Airport announced, on Friday evening, that an explosion occurred near the outer wall of the airport, without causing injuries or affecting air traffic at the airport, and explained that “the explosion caused a fire, and the civil defense teams at the airport immediately reached it and controlled the fire.”
Meanwhile, the First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, directed, on Saturday, the formation of an investigative committee regarding the attack on Sulaymaniyah Airport, and Al-Mandalawi said: “We strongly condemn the targeting of Sulaymaniyah International Airport, because it represents a serious violation of Iraqi sovereignty, and a threat to the lives of citizens,” according to What was reported by the Iraqi agency.
He added, “We also direct the Security and Defense Committee to form an investigative committee to find out the circumstances of the attack and submit an urgent report, to take measures that preserve sovereignty and protect the lives of our people from any attack.”
And the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement a few days ago, “the closure of Turkish airspace to flights to and from Sulaymaniyah airport in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq, and the suspension of flights to the airport due to the infiltration of the PKK in this airport,” according to the Turkish (Anatolia) agency. news.
