The range of iPad should experience major upheavals in the coming months. Apple’s tablets might indeed integrate new screen technologies and inaugurate new dimensions.
Rumors around future iPads are multiplying and all indicate that the range of tablets will be entitled to profound changes. Apple might thus launch iPads equipped with screens OLEDa technology that improves color rendition and brightness even more than the mini-LED screen of the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
FaceTime under the screen, first for iPads
The first OLED models should be released in 2024. In the meantime, Apple has to develop several prototypes before launching the production lines. For the occasion, the manufacturer would have set its sights on a dry engraving technology to reduce the weight of the component, while a special coating would reinforce the resistance of the screen. Samsung and LG would be the suppliers of OLED screens for the iPad.
In the short term, Apple should keep an 11-inch iPad Pro with its classic LCD screen, ie without the mini-LEDs of the 12.9-inch version. According Ross Youngan analyst at DSCC, both tablet models are expected to switch to OLED in 2024.
And that’s not all. According to the analyst who often has good information, Apple intends to integrate the TrueDepth components essential to FaceTime under the screen first on iPad. It is therefore the tablets that will benefit, before the iPhone. This integration is easier with the tablet, which is sold in smaller quantities than the smartphone: suppliers have less pressure to produce the necessary components.
FaceTime under the screen might land as soon as next year, hopes Ross Young. As for the first foldable Apple devices, you will have to be patient: here too there is a supply problem for the glass slabs.
