During Thursday’s race, an 18-year-old domestic rider went off the track in the forest in rainy weather and suffered a head injury. One of the organizational assistants discovered her on the spot almost two hours later. Furrer succumbed to the consequences a day later.

“According to the initial findings, she crashed while going downhill in a slight left turn near Küsnacht. There is no indication that anyone else was involved in or saw the accident. No one noticed the fall. There are no television footage or other records. No witnesses either,” the police and prosecutors said in a press release.

However, the newspaper Blick drew attention to the fact that other female cyclists were riding in front of Furrer and behind her. And that she lay in the woods for at least an hour and a half before she was found and before the helicopter that was called took her to the hospital. Despite the tragic event, the championship continued as planned at the family’s wishes.
