The intestine, our second brain – rtbf.be

After delving into this theme during a post-doctorate at theMcMaster University in Canada, Sophie extended her work as FNRS Research Fellow in Belgium.

Currently, Sophie Leclercq is examining three specific communication pathways between the brain and the intestine: the inflammatory pathway, the pathway of metabolites produced by intestinal bacteria and the vagus nerve which connects the brain to the organs of the digestive system.

Among Sophie Leclercq’s next lines of research is also sociability, whose impact on health in general and alcohol dependence in particular is obvious.

In 2022, Sophie Leclercq obtained the grant from the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation.
