The International Documentary Film Festival begins in Vilnius Culture

The ten-day event will be opened by the Golden Bear-winning film Dahomey, which raises questions of identity and decolonization.

According to the organizers, this year the audience of the festival is invited to one main program, which combines the works of recognized masters of documentary cinema and creators of experimental cinema.

Ten films will be shown to the audience in the main program. Among them is Frederick Wiseman’s strip “Menus plaisirs – Troisgros family” about a French restaurant rated with three Michelin stars.

The festival will also present Nicol Philibert’s film “Averroes and Rosa Parks”, which tells the story of St. The lives of patients in the psychiatric wards of a Mauritian hospital.

The audience will also see the debut feature film of Iranian director Faraz Feshrakis “What did you dream of, Paradzhanov?”. It tells about family relations, political tensions. The screenings will be followed by interviews with the film’s director.

The Lithuanian program of the festival will focus on visionary cultural figures and historical natural artifacts.

Aušra Lukošiūnienė’s film “Juoda” presented at the Cannes Film Festival’s industry fair “Cannes Short Film Corner” will invite you to follow the ideas of architect Valdas Ozarinskas, which transcended their time, his and Aida Čeponytė’s video work “Middle European Men” will reveal the wardrobes of cultural representatives of the 1990s, and the Estonian director Arkos Okko (Arko Oko) together with Lithuanians created the film “The ice that holds us” will reflect on the relationship between man and nature.

Julija Juknaitė’s film “Mana rajons: Pietinis” about the Southern District of Šiauliai surrounded by legends will also be shown at the festival.

This year, the Vilnius Documentary Film Festival will show a comprehensive retrospective of Latvian director Ansios Epner’s documentary film.

Focused on creative documentaries, the festival is the oldest international documentary film festival in the Baltic States. The films will be shown in Vilnius and Klaipėda.
