On Thursday, the first session of the International Court of Justice began in The Hague to try Israel for its crimes in Gaza during the current aggression, in light of the call submitted by South Africa on the twenty-ninth of last December once morest Israel on charges of committing genocide once morest Palestinian civilians.

Judge Muhammad Bennouna
Judge Mohamed Bennouna was born in 1943 in Marrakesh, Morocco. He studied jurisprudence and political science at the University of Nancy and the University of Paris, where he obtained a doctorate in international law. He also graduated from the Academy of International Law in The Hague in 1970.
Judge Mohamed Bennouna was appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations. He later became a judge at the International Court of Justice in the file of the border dispute between Benin and Niger. He was a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and was an Assistant Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations.
Judge Abdul Qawi Yusuf
Judge Abdul Qawi Ahmed Yusuf holds Somali citizenship. He holds a doctorate in political science and international law from the University of Geneva in 1980. He holds doctorates with honors in law from London College and the University of Paris I, and an honorary doctorate from KIT University in India. .
He was elected for the first time to the Court in 2009, and was re-elected once more in 2018. He became Vice-President of the Court between 2015 and 2018, and President of the Court from 2018 to 2021.
He is also a member of the Tribunal Committee of the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes, a member of the International Trade Control Council, and the founder and Chairman of the African Institute of International Law.
Judge Nawaf Salam
Nawaf Salam was born in 1953. He is of Lebanese origin and is a judge at the International Court of Justice. He obtained a doctorate in political science from the Institute of Political Sciences in Paris in 1992, a master’s degree in law from Harvard Law School, and a doctorate in history from the Sorbonne University.
Salam served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the United Nations in New York from 2007 to 2017. Salam’s term at the United Nations was characterized by repeated interventions in the Security Council calling for respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty.
